>Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us

>

http://youtube.com/v/6gmP4nk0EOE

I never like it when I hear people casually throwing around the term “Web 2.0.” It’s Ouriel’s fault (See link to blog on roll to the right). He invests in Web 2.0 startups. But he doesn’t use that term.

Why not? It’s generic and like any other buzz word predisposed to being vague. Some people even claim that the term now extends to certain image design aesthetics, like the reflective images Apple uses on everything nowadays. I can’t say I agree with that. That is too specific.

The term is actually somewhere in between completely unclear and representative of very specific things. Those individual things can be examples, but they shouldn’t suffice as definitions of Web 2.0 as I constantly hear them being used.

This video is the first time I’ve not only felt the term explained correctly and succinctly but it’s the first time I’ve even come to understand it fully myself.

Web 2.0 is everything this video shows that it is. It is not Flickr and YouTube, but Flickr and YouTube are perfect examples of Web 2.0 principles at work.

[Thanks go to this professor and Wired Magazine for the insight]

>Catholics Use Manga to bring in more Nuns

I say: If a multi-volume manga about one girl’s shopping can be popula (YKK), recruit a real Japanese author and this thing will sell.

[Page is from Jiro Taniguchi’s Walking Man, a manga series where a man literally walks, sometimes with this dog, sometimes his wife. Damn those Japanese are good.]

>260 Wedding and Honeymoon Photos Added

>Just added last SD card full of photos. Holy cow I’m glad I found that thing. Just select either the Wedding or Honeymoon galleries to the right to see the new pics. There are about 30 new ones for the wedding and 230 for the Honeymoon, this was the biggest batch from the Honeymoon. So the majority of our France pics were not up yet.

Note: Picasa allows for you to download entire albums at once, just look for the link on the left that says “Download Album.” That makes it MUCH easier.

>Funky Forest: The First Contact (trailer)

http://youtube.com/v/TNhCTdzIFqA

Well I *was* looking forward to catching Sympathy for Lady Vengeance this upcoming weekend but now I don’t know. Thanks for the recommendation, Ben. Now it appears that it has to contend with this Funky Forest flick, not to mention the fact that I need to catch The Host at some point here…must purchase projector…and start…movie club.

>Sex & Fury (1973)

>
Well it turned out to be a great weekend for movies. We took a respite from pure ultraviolence (Oldboy, Rick-Oh, Grindhouse, heck even Gears of War…) and got lots of sex in between 70’s swordplay (SHING) and ketchup-spitting.

Mr. Tarantino: Now I know where 75% of Kill Bill comes from…and Elle Driver too. Shame on you…although I suppose it’s this sort of synthesis of new and previously created work that defines our era of mash-ups and remixes. You’re either totally ripping stuff off or combining it with original things to create something new, which I totally endorse, I just can’t decide which side of the fence to stick you on.

>Planet Terror/Death Proof – Opening Night

>
Mr. Rodriguez: big ups, best thing I’ve seen in months.

Mr. Tarantino: well played, although these “cameos” are getting a lot bigger. and they’re distracting. only part that let me forget about who I was watching was when your penis was falling off; this is not a good thing.

Overall, 3 hours that felt like 15 min.

>W E D D I N G P H O T O S

Good news everyone! I’ve made it through the last month! After going to the hospital, getting married, going to – and getting stuck in – France, cutting my toe open and having Chelsea go into the hospital too – all in that order – I’m still alive. And I have the pictures to prove it. Unfortunately we’re still missing a memory card full of photos from the wedding and France and the professional pics, from Chez Wimberly, haven’t come back yet BUT at least we have over 300 collected so far.

See photos from Chelsea and Erik’s Wedding of Wonder.
