This was not nearly as good as I remembered it. Re-reading this now shows me how far I’ve come from my near-fanboy days. That said, it probably is one of the strongest Hulk stories ever and Bruce Jones did a good job writing a Bruce Banner story. That is the Hulk was barely in it, which was great for more than just novelty. The story of a drifter trying to find a place to hide from his past is a classic one and a perfect fit to this otherwise irrelevant superhero. Just too much of it was ridiculous and in general it fell into the “we’re writing comics about big strong guys and it’s FUN” trap. The effort falls short of really grounding the story in reality enough for it to be interesting.
Note: Title links to 3 page preview, not very representative of what are the strengths of this arc but it was the easiest to locate.
